An Accredited High School for Students with Learning Disabilities

Founded in 1982, Brehm School is the only accredited junior and senior high school in the Midwest specifically designed to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with complex learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder.

Brehm School is proud to be accredited by:

  • The Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS)
  • The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA)

Brehm is also a current member of the following organizations:

  • International Dyslexia Association (IDA - formerly the Orton Dyslexia Association)
  • Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA)
  • National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS)
  • The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS)
  • Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS)
  • Small Boarding School Association (SBSA)
  • National Association of Private Special Education Centers (NAPSEC)
  • Midwest Boarding Schools (MWBS)

Brehm's five full-time speech-language pathologists are active members of:

  • American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)

Brehm uses the term "complex" learning disabilities in recognition that students experience difficulties in multiple areas of functioning. Brehm’s holistic program focuses on the combined academic, social and emotional effects of having a learning disability.

Our students often have multiple diagnoses affecting their performance with the core issue of having a language-based etiology. We recognize the combined effects of LD/ADD, language based processing issues, executive function issues and the social and psychological implications of not being successful in an academic environment. Brehm offers direct interventions for students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, NLD, aspergers, anxiety disorder, auditory processing disorder, speed of processing disorders and interventions requiring social and emotional support as it relates to academic issues.
