Attention Deficit Disorder In School

Most discussions of learning disabilities focus on their effects in the classroom. Of course a student with attention deficit disorder in school is going to face many issues. They often need special attention and coaching to get work done. Unfortunately, this can be difficult to add to the typical classroom. Furthermore, attention deficit hyperactive disorder in children all too often manifests itself in the form of disruptive behavior. Many children with these disorders acquire the reputation of being "bad" or "unmanageable." This also carries over to how the children are perceived by other students. Leaving for special classes and coaching can even become an issue if other children start to wonder why they leave the classroom.

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder In Children

Unfortunately, often this is only the tip of the iceberg. There are many additional effects of attention deficit hyperactive disorder in children. Low achievement can lead to feelings of inferiority or depression. The tremendous frustration can lead to anger and hostility. If a student is not getting the proper instruction to account for their attention deficit disorder in school, the effects can be felt throughout their entire life.

At Brehm Preparatory School, we take a holistic approach to learning disabilities. We offer our students not only the small classroom sizes and individual attention they need to succeed. Each student is also issued a laptop with state of the art learning assistive technology, such as voice recognition software, installed. At Brehm, we also address the emotional and behavioral components of each student's case. We have five full time speech-language pathologists on staff as well. It is our goal to help our students adopt the strategies for a successful lifestyle, and 75% of our graduates go on to college.
