When parents learn that their children having learning disabilities, the most common question is: Why? The truth is that there are many factors that contribute to the causes of reading disabilities. No one is entirely sure exactly how or why they appear. We do know, however, that many assumptions from the past are wrong. We have learned, for example, that glasses are not a cure for kids with dyslexia. It has also been proven time and time again that people with such disabilities are not less intelligent than other people. Perhaps most important of all, we have gained a great deal of insight as to how to overcome reading disabilities. There is no cure, unfortunately, but a holistic program such as the curriculum used at Brehm Preparatory School can help students archive a great deal despite their reading difficulties.
How To Overcome Readings Disabilities
There is no single solution to overcoming learning disabilities. At Brehm, we have kids with dyslexia study the possible causes of reading disabilities and other disorders. They learn about this so that they may help our staff identify and define their own problems. The next step in this process, which we call learning cognition, is to develop a solid foundation of study skills. The third component of the process is to address self management. This includes time management, self evaluations and other skills. There is no guaranteed single guide on how to overcome reading disabilities. Brehm's learning cognition process forces children to examine their strengths and weaknesses and design a program that will allow them to reach their full potential. Of course, this is done with the support and guidance of our highly qualified staff. At Brehm, our goal is to produce students who are able to lead productive, successful lives.
