The students involved in the Campus Improvement division of Brehm’s Problem Based Learning Curriculum met for the first time on Monday, September 21. Faculty advisors Gary Featheringham and Barb Lawrence provided an overview of last year’s accomplishments, which included an Olympic-style competition event and the construction of the first in a series of exercise stations that will surround the Brehm pond. Funding for the stations was provided by competitor fees for the competition event and generous donations from other individuals. Goals for this year’s Campus Improvement crew include maintaining the existing station, constructing at least one more station, and planning and organizing a fall and spring competition event.
Once the overview was provided, the group took a walk around the pond, noting what was needed at the first exercise station (massive weed pulling). Gary also showed us where the next two stations will be placed. We took headshot of the students for the bulletin board in West Academic and then strolled around the pond, noting what could be done to make the path more visible.
