Student Profile

Brehm provides a comprehensive range of services, which include instruction in core academic areas, remediation for LD issues, Speech and Language services, pragmatic skills training, social skills development, life-skills development, recreational activities, cultural enrichment, and career/college exploration, and transition.

Learning Disabilities

Brehm Preparatory School addresses a broad spectrum of learning disabilities. Students at Brehm may demonstrate processing, perceptual, or conceptual deficits, which occur in visual, auditory, or motor functioning. Deficits in one or more of these areas affect academic, social, and emotional growth. Brehm students receive instruction and counseling as to the nature of their learning disabilities and their specific learning styles. Students can cope with the demands of their content coursework by using strategies and techniques they learn.

As a prerequisite to acceptance and enrollment, each prospective student must have a complete psycho-educational evaluation, and a primary diagnosis of a specific learning disability and/or A.D.D. After a review of this information, the application, and other information pertinent to assessing the applicant's needs, an on-campus interview will be offered if it appears likely that Brehm Preparatory School would be an appropriate program.

Brehm does NOT accept students with the primary behaviors or clinical disorders:
• Mental Retardation
• Psychotic Disorder
• Borderline Personality Disorder
• Active drug or alcohol problem or a history of active drug and alcohol problems
• Aggressive/assault behaviors requiring restraint/Behavior Disorders
• Sexual Perpetrator
• Conduct disorder (DSM-IV criteria which include: lack of regard for the rights of others, no remorse, cruelty to animals, fire starter, bullies and threatens others, etc.)
• Requires routine physical restraint to control own behaviors
• Current pattern of self-harm behaviors
• Pattern of runaway behaviors
• Conduct Disorder (as defined by DSM IV)
• Intermittent Explosive Disorder
