The
Therapeutic
Program
|
The therapeutic program is a major component of the holistic approach at Brehm Preparatory School. It is designed to provide comprehensive support for our students’ social and emotional needs. The therapeutic program is overseen by the Associate Director and consists of medical, psychiatric, counseling, social skills, and behavior intervention services and therapies. By addressing our students’ social and emotional needs they are more available to benefit from our educational program.

Speech-Language Department
Brehm’s Speech-Language Department employs four full-time SLPs to provide a high level of individualized service. Brehm SLPs evaluate speech, language, and related skills; establish contexts and frequencies for therapies based on individual needs; and develop, implement, and report progress on individual therapy plans. The SLP Coordinator works with the Coordinator of Educational Services to arrange therapy times for individual students with attention to favorable student groupings when small group contexts are desirable. SLPs communicate with Brehm staff, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis regarding the communication status of students and its impact on their academic, social, and personal issues.
Pragmatics and Social Communication Skills: Small group pragmatic language sessions are conducted by Brehm’s Speech-Language therapists. Individual follow-up is conducted with each member of the group. These sessions focus on aspects of communication including verbal and non-verbal signals, conversational skills, impression-making, perspective-taking, and social conventions. |
