Saturday 11/4/17: Southern Illinois University (SIU) Open House (seniors)

OPEN HOUSE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

  • Guided tours of campus, residence halls, and select academic departments
  • Information sessions on a variety of topics of interest to prospective students
  • An Academic College Fair and Student Services Fair featuring representatives from academic and student support services areas
  • ACHIEVE (comprehensive disability support program) presentation

 

Fall 2017, OPTIONS Tour (small group)

Seniors meet with admissions, tour the OPTIONS campus to see various classes (ex: college support, technology, personal finance, etc), and visit the apartments with independent living support counselors (Q&A on routines, expectations, cooking, meal planning, etc).

 

Monday 11/13/17: Lynn University Visits Brehm

Students interested in Lynn University will speak with an admissions representative.

 

Thursday 1/11/18: FBLA Regional Conference at SIU (FBLA students)

FBLA students attend the keynote (last year was Dress for Success on work impressions) and compete in events of their interest (Advisors are Kara Lovelace-Greer and Jamie Robinson Niman).

 

Monday 1/22/18: How to Adult: Life Skills Conference

Breakout sessions include leadership, cooking, car maintenance, writing professional emails, college life panel, budgeting, and more!

 

Tuesday 2/6/2018: Health Career Showcase & Applied Technology Tour at John A Logan College (JALC) (Juniors, Seniors)

Juniors and seniors see programs offered at John A Logan College and tour the campus.  Students can choose either Health Career Showcase or the Applied Technology Tour.  

 

Saturday 2/10/18: Students Involved with Technology Conference

Pending enrollment, $30 registration includes hands-on activities, competitions, keynote speaker, snack, lunch, t-shirt, many different technology sessions to attend and many chances to win prizes!  Example sessions include: animation, MineCraft, Google, Spheros, 3D printing, Scratch, coding, Lego robotics, favorite apps, photo editing, drones, Makey Makey, web tools, etc.

 

Thursday 2/22/18: SIU Engineering Day

Hands-on engineering activities, Q&A with SIU engineering students, and design competition.   

 

Friday 2/23/18: Accounting Challenge

Pending enrollment, Academic and team building competitions with a SIU tour of the Business of College.

 

3/2018: Discovery Day at JALC (Juniors, Seniors)

Students registered for each Applied Tech program (limit 2 per program) get a hands-on experience of the classroom. Discovery Day requires some previous experience in each field (welding, automotive, electronics, etc), otherwise students shadow activities.

 

Spring: MEDIAWERKS (SIU Communication & Media Arts Field Day)

News, media, production, journalism, and advertising morning workshops with instructors and college students.  Includes an afternoon career panel for all participants.

 

3/2018: Transition Summit (Juniors, Seniors)

Pending interest.  Last year’s itinerary:

  • Keynote on goal setting

Panels:

  • Postsecondary Resources: Job Corps, DORS, Cornerstone, etc.
  • Dress for Success (job interview instruction, job skills)
  • College options for certifications and degrees
  • Employment option after high school graduation

Tour of JALC (community college) and TRIO (disability support program)

Break-Out Sessions:

  • Group A: John A. Logan Programs
  • Group B: JALC + 4-year University (JALC and SIU)
  • Group C: Military
