Brehm’s mission is to empower students with complex learning disabilities to recognize and optimize their full potential.
By fostering a family environment where educational, social, and emotional needs of each student are addressed in a focused, holistic program, through partnership among staff, students, parents, board, and the community.
To accomplish this mission, we place high value on:
Student empowerment
Integrity
Strategies for interactive problem solving
Ongoing open communication
Staff development
Continuous improvement in programs
Financial stability
Brehm is a place of learning and growth for the student with learning differences.
Brehm is a multi-faceted learning process; it’s a continually evolving holistic process that integrates academic, emotional, social, and life skills. It is recognized that every interchange with a student is a learning moment. Our goal is to empower each student to become an advocate in his/her own learning process, capitalizing upon his/her unique gifts. A key outcome of the process is for each student to develop the capacity to be in control of his/her own destiny, to be motivated, and to be persistent in achieving his/her own goals along the way.
Brehm is an extended family of students and all the lives they touch, with each person communicating to foster and celebrate student successes and transitions, encouraging student independence with responsibility, and networking to support each other in dealing with the challenges of daily life.
Brehm provides a support system, allowing for the development of individual transition plans that encompass realistic options for higher education, career development, and independent living skills, leading each student to a productive, fulfilling life in his/her community.
As an expression of an environment, Brehm is a “State of Being,” an energy and a spirit that, once experienced, continually evokes in all of us the urge to grow and serve. It respects differences and honors uniqueness.
Brehm affirms the human heart in its need
To hope for, indeed expect, every student to realize his/her full potential and apply his/her knowledge and skills to a productive, fulfilling life,
To have faith in the knowledge and the wisdom of staff and their processes to find solutions to the previously intractable, and
To show love through total acceptance and commitment, yet loving enough to discipline, to challenge, and to let go as independence emerges.
Individually, we are all stakeholders in this quest.
Collectively, as a Brehm family, we can make it happen. |
