Students just finished an introduction of the earliest and latest photographs of human history. Discussion led to what makes a moving or interesting photo. We talked about composition, subject matter, lighting, storytelling within a photo, contrast, starkness, etc., and how they all collectively contribute to a memorable photo. Sharing personal photos and telling stories about the photos was a great ice breaker, which helped to bring in even the shyest student. We will begin the much-anticipated pinhole camera construction during the latter part of this week and hopefully finish, so we can begin taking photos next week. The darkroom was also “constructed” this week.
