Orientation week was packed full of learning experiences and “how to’s.” Students went in small groups to learn how to navigate the Brehm academic program. They learned how to use their assignment books, how to access their assisted technology, log in to view grades and assignments, and simply to get to know each other and their teachers. One of the activities involved team-building and the importance of communication and collaboration. Students were divided into small groups of 3-4 and given matching Lego bricks. Each group sent a communicator and a designer to receive instructions. One student viewed a built Lego sculpture for exactly one minute and then had to communicate what it looked like to the group while they tried to mock build it. Afterwards we reflected on what we had learned, what was difficult, what came easy, their successes and failures.
